Where is there a nice military chapel in southern California?

My fiancé and I want to get married on base in California but he’s not based here so we don’t know of any nice chapels or bases here. He’s in the army so we’re looking for an army base or a joint base. Help me please I’m a civilian so I can’t just walk on base an look around by myself and he can’t leave Virginia until July. So I’m on the hunt by myself.

There are a couple bases in Southern California (although I can’t speak to the niceness of their chapels): Camp Pendleton, Los Angeles Air Force Base, Naval Air Base Coronado, North Island, MCAS Miramar, just to name a few. If you’re willing to go a little more north, there’s Point Mugu, Vandenberg Air Force Base, the Presidio in Monterey, and the Naval Postgraduate School.

Each chapel/denomination has its own counseling requirements, and when I was trying to figure out our wedding plans, I found that the chaplains were very willing to work with us to help us meet counseling requirements. Though you can’t get on bases by yourself, you can call up the chaplain’s office on base and get information about the requirements for marriages. Maybe use Google for images of the chapels or see if the chaplains can provide you with anything, or wait until your fiance can come down and visit a couple of the bases.

Finally, while you can’t bring your own minister in to officiate the ceremony by himself, you can request that your minister co-officiate the ceremony, and the chaplain that I worked with was very willing to let me do that.

Good luck, and congratulations!
