What is the best beach near San Diego?

I wanted to spend the weekend at some motel close to the beach in San Diego. But I don’t know that area at all. Does anyone have any suggestions? Which one is the nicest beach there? I heard of a beach on some island or something that is very beatiful.

The beach that you heard of on the island is probably Coronado Beach. It’s a beautiful, clean beach in a lovely area. It has a sidewalk where you can rent a surrey or bike and ride along the coastline.

The best beach depends on what you want to do. Some beaches have firepits for bonfires, some are good for surfing, others for a lively crowded beach, some are better for children. I would suggest that you take a look at this site: http://www.sandiego-romantics.com/romantic-beaches-in-san-diego.html You will find pictures, descriptions, and directions on how to get to each of them.

The Del Mar beach is beautiful. You should visit it on July 4th, the fireworks are amazing 🙂

There are several beaches and each has its own personality. If you want a family-fun beach, then Mission beach is good and they have the roller coaster. They also have a big parking lot that’s free but it gets pretty crowded. (Well they all get crowded in the Summer) There are a lot of surfers and beach goers in their mid twenties and older at Pacific Beach. Parking is hit and miss for PB. But you can usually find a lot that costs around $5. If you want to have a beer at the beach, the only beach that allows alcohol still is Imperial beach down by Chula Vista. It is still very family friendly though and not a crazy party beach. It has a big parking area and it is state run and it costs $8 to park. Then there is Ocean beach where more hippie-types go.

There are a couple other beaches too like Coronado and La Jolla. La Jolla is more of a snorkeling rocky cliff-type beach in a luxurious setting and it is beautiful but doesn’t really have the "sandy" beach. I haven’t been to Coronado Beach but I heard it is awesome too.

Ocean Beach is kinda dirty, but the pier is fun to check out.
