What are the best places to go to on a day trip to San Diego?

Shopping, dining, general fun things to do?

I have spent a lot of time in San Diego and these are some of the things that I really enjoyed doing.

Point Loma tide pools and many other things : http://www.nps.gov/archive/cabr/lighthouse.html

Old historic district of San Diego with cute shops and good food: http://www.oldtownsandiego.org/

Coronado Island and the beautiful beach. Visit Hotel Del Coronado:

A cute surfing town. Lots of beach shops, roller coaster and simulated surfing, bike rentals etc:

The San Diego Zoo and/or Wild Animal Park are hard to beat.
Old Town is a great place to shop and eat.
Balboa Park (where the zoo is) has great museums.
Legoland if you have kids (big or little)

Go to a restaurant called the corvette diner. I love themed restaurants and this is one of my favorites. There is a DJ in the corner that plays requests, all the waitresses are in poodle skirts and beehive hairdos, they have awesome burgers and malts, there is a guy that goes around making baloon animals for the kids, and every 30 minutes or so, all the waitresses dance…things like the roach…50s numbers.

Definitely La Jolla for shopping, Old Town for sightseeing and authentic Mexican cuisine, and PB or Mission Beach for that much-needed, laid-back atmosphere where you just have to relax and have a drink by the ocean. But you could easily spend a whole day in La Jolla, visiting the seals, going to the shops and heading up to the Gliderport at Torrey Pines. Depending on your taste, you have more than enough choices for fun day trips!

Do not listen to the person that suggested Tijuana. If you want to go to San Diego for a day, don’t spend you day in Tijuana. You will need a passport anyways.

Go to Pacific Beach, La Jolla or Del Mar during the day and downtown for dinner. The gaslamp areas has a great restaurant and bar scene. of course there is Sea World and the zoo but those have been suggested.

Golfing, Hiking, Beach cruising in PB boardwalk is great time,

I had stayed in San Diego for almost 2 months.
I had bought 2 maps before going on the trip. However, both are incomplete. I had bought a 3rd one but its too small to be seen by a magnifying lens. The reason is because San Diego is too widespread. I had just appreciated its totality when I ride the trolley. At each trolley station, there is usually a bus stop. You can stop at each station and see the features of the majority of the station. It is better to explore on your own and see the beauty of San Diego.

It is like you havent been to San Diego if you havent been to its theme parks like Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park! See their websites. See if there is a promo if you go to the 3 theme parks. Go early since there is a schedule to follow. You have to make the most out of what you had paid for. Bring a jacket or a hat/bonnet/umbrella/sun glasses to be sure. You have to do a lot of walkings or you can have an option of riding the double decker trip. Buy the bottomless drinks once you enter or earlier in the day. The drink can also be a souvenir.

Go to Balboa Park ( see its website ) and plan your day. It is one of the best parks in the world.

Legoland is another one to see! It is in Carlsbad. See also the farms over there.

As to shopping, nothing can beat than go to the last American exit in San Ysidro. There is an outlet store there. It is usually cheaper there.

The Coronado Bridge is one of the tallest in the world. It had already won due to its structure and mind you it gives a spectacular view of the beaches. See also Hotel Coronado. Did you know that it is one of the best not only in the USA but also in the world.

Oceanside is also refreshing. I paased by it when I ride the Amtrak and the Greyhound.

Harbor View is also the best. If you can afford it, choose a room at Mariott Hotel that is overlooking the boats. My cousin’s husband works in Mariott branches in California and he coordinated with a friend over there. Well, it is one of the best view I had seen in my life.

See yahoo travel, go to guides and go to US cities, go to San Diego. Down the page are located the top 10 famous attractions in San Diego and see also its slideshow of its beautiful places.
