Stamp Out Hunger: Letter Carriers to Pick Up Canned Goods for the Needy

The United States Postal Service will be collecting food at mailboxes on Saturday for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Donating to food banks will be as easy as leaving a bag of non-perishable food by the mailbox on Saturday, when letter carriers in Coronado and across the nation will be collecting donations for the annual Stamp Out Hunger program.

To participate, simply leave a bag with canned food and other items that don’t need refrigeration by the mailbox.

Suggested items include:

  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Pasta
  • Cereal
  • Rice
  • Fruit juice in plastic containers.

Glass containers and expired food are not recommended.

Last year, letter carriers nationwide collected more than 70 million pounds of food in more than 10,000 communities. But with more than 50 million people, including nearly 17 million children, facing hunger in America, the fight for hunger relief continues.
