Pre-Christmas DUI Arrests Down from Last Year

The California Highway Patrol is reporting fewer pre-Christmas DUI arrests this year.

California Highway Patrol officers in San Diego County arrested 17 suspected drunken drivers from Friday evening to 6 a.m. Saturday, 13 less than the tally for the same pre-Christmas period last year.

No vehicle occupants were was killed during the reporting period that started at 6:01 p.m. Friday, law enforcement agencies throughout San Diego County reported. No fatalities were reported during the first about 12 hours of the reporting period last year either.

CHP officers throughout the state arrested 337 suspected drunken drivers on freeways an on roads in unincorporated areas during the reporting period, 110 less than the same time period last year, according to the CHP.

Statewide, nine traffic fatalities were reported this year. Law enforcement agencies reported no fatalities during the same period last year.
