Day Trip: How Digging for Tourmaline Can Pay for Itself

coronado home
One of the most fun day trip activities I've ever done in San Diego County is at the Himalaya Tourmaline Mine Dig located about 20 miles east of Pala at the Lake Henshaw Resort. For $75 you get to mine for sparkly gems from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All tools are included – just show up with clothes than can get dirty, water and a cooler of food if you'd like. There is also a restaurant at the resort. Children under 12 are free and there are special rates for seniors, military members, groups and on rainy days.   Seventy-five dollars may seem like a lot to pay to shift through dirt and rocks, but you will find gems. In fact, we found about 20 pieces of tourmaline in just a few hours. A miner told me one of the larger pieces I found could be, "sold to a hippie for about 50 bucks."

...And, when I woke up, I noticed that he was completely naked. He also did not bother to call the cops when it all went down, which makes me wonder if this was part of an elaborate plan between him and the cops for him to possibly take advantage of me. That SEXUAL PREDATOR'S/ RAPIST'S number WILL be getting posted on my blog soon, here at: http://decriminalizela.blogspot.com/2012/11/dannys-palm-bar-and-grill-and-coronado.html Even though this occurred back on February 13, 2012, I am still bothered and distressed by this subconscious, buried memory to this day, even so much so that I stayed awake all last night because of it, hence why I NEEDED to get this off my chest. To give you some backdrop, which I will post on my blog, I was ganged up on by a crowd of bar attendants and a the emp...

Patch Pets: Jeeves and Big Boy

coronado home
A Navy discharge brought Jeeves and Big Boy in. They were happily carrying out their duties of greeting everyone who came to the Welcome Center on the base and thought they had a fine life hanging out, being fed, getting petted and enjoying the company of visitors. The powers that be thought otherwise and Jeeves and Big Boy were forced to retire from service, but hopefully graduate into loving homes. Both cats are social and friendly, coming up to say hello to anyone who enters their room. Jeeves is not quite as bold as Big Boy, so after he comes up to you he needs to make sure you are okay. Then he will follow you around the room to make sure he doesn’t miss anything. He will make a delightful greeter and companion in a quieter home. If you are interested i

The same day Sen. Barbara Boxer visited Barrio Logan’s Perkins Elementary School to promote the lapsed Secure Our Schools grant program, news reports highlighted the fact Adam Lanza committed his Newtown massacre in about five minutes—amid a well-secured school. As KPBS reported Thursday: Boxer’s bill “would provide $40 million for school district grants to cover the costs of things like improving lighting, doors, locks and fences, installing security cameras and collaborating with local law enforcement.” Boxer was quoted as saying: “It is time for the slaughter of innocents to stop. For those of you who were in that room with me with those [Perkins Elementary] children—they look up to us, they want us to protect them. They understand it is our job. And we are failing them.”&
