It's the day after Thanksgiving, and that means it will be Black Friday and the end of the road for half the teams still alive in the CIF San Diego Section playoffs. The quarterfinal round on Friday night will determine the 20 teams in five divisions that advance to next week's semifinals, and there are sure to be a few turkeys among the matchups. But there also should be some nail-biters. Among the top seeds, county No. 1 Helix in Division II has been unstoppable since its opening week loss to Eastlake. The Highlanders host traditional power Torrey Pines, which is only 5-6 this season. In Division I, unbeaten Poway hosts Chula Vista, with a possible rematch against No. 4-seed San Pasqual next Thursday if both avoid upsets. The teams tied during the regular season. In D...

Your Ultimate Guide to Black Friday

coronado home
I remember a year when my sister and I went Black Friday shopping. Not knowing much about the biggest shopping day of the year (other than the fact that we wanted deals), we arrived at Macy's long after it had opened its doors. And we were shocked. We were shocked that we missed the free gifts even though it was barely 9 a.m. It was a surprise to know that so many shoppers had arrived at hours I've never seen before. But if you're serious about venturing over the bridge to score deals, I suppose you might as well sacrifice the zzz's for one day. I have yet to make such a sacrifice, but I don't want anyone left in the dust like I was that year. So here's your ultimate guide for Black Friday shopping to ensure you score as many deals as possible: Targe

Football fans at the 33rd annual Chargers Blood Drive got a treat Tuesday with an appearance by former star linebacker Junior Seau, who is scheduled to be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame Sunday. The event, at the Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, benefits the San Diego Blood Bank. Appearing with Seau in the first few hours of the blood drive were current San Diego Charger players Vincent Brown, Shaun Phillips and Mike Tolbert, and former placekickers John Carney and Rolf Benirschke. The blood drive began in 1979 when the team and blood bank teamed in honor of Benirschke, who had two major surgeries within six days for ulcerative colitis. More than 50,000 pints of blood have been collected in the years since, according to blood bank officials.&#
