Remember those avocados we talked about earlier this month? They’ve got a reason to be green with envy. A summer fruit has made its way into the market one season early and may steal some of the limelight from our beloved avocados. Tomatoes are generally a summer crop. They love warm weather and thrive in it. One of the many advantages about living in San Diego is our consistent warm weather. Our winters here are still warm enough to grow the lycopene-rich fruit, so we can enjoy fresh BLTs year-round. Five Parks to Picnic

Did you know Coronado has 21 parks? This week, Patch Picks five park to have a picnic, and some of them are a little off the beaten path: Bay Circle Park.  Located at 100 Bay Circle, this park is quiet, isolated and tucked away just off the golf course. Vetter Park. Located at 1625 Cajon Place, this park has a couple swings and is close to the tennis center. It's also named after a former mayor. Grand Caribe Shoreline Park. This park, with great bay views, is a genuine gem and often forgotten by those who don't live in the Cays. It is located at Grand Caribe Causeway and Caribe Cay Boulevard North, next to the Cays yacht club. Coronado Cays Park. Located at 99 Caribe Isle, this is one of the bigger parks in Coronado. USS Abraham Lincoln Finishes Six-Month Deployment, Returns to Coronado

The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln returned to Naval Air Station North Island Saturday morning after completing a six-month deployment in the Western Pacific and Middle East. The Lincoln arrived at the station's Pier K around 11:00 a.m., and helicopter sea combat units arrived a few hours in advance of the ship, according to the Navy's public affairs office.  The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group successfully flew more than 8,300 sorties and completed more than 23,500 flying hours, with about half in support of U.S. and coalition ground force in Afghanistan, Navy officials said. “I could not be more proud of the sailors and officers in my squadron and the rest of the strike group,” said Cmdr. Kenneth Strong, commanding officer of one of the helicopter squadrons. “

Wondering When UC Admissions Letters Come Out? Here Are the Dates

University of California campuses are in the process of sending out their admissions decisions for fall 2011 freshman undergraduates. We've got a list of the dates when applicants can expect to find out if they've been accepted. "Campuses communicate to each applicant their admissions notification dates in advance, electronically and/or through the campus admissions website. In order to avoid disruptions at high schools, campuses generally delay notification releases until late in the day," Pamela Burnett, interim director of undergraduate admissions for the University of California, said in an e-mail.
