you might be from Southern California if? and what is the best thing about San Diego?

coronado home
Southern California, or So Cal, is defined as the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Its population centers on the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura. The region is home to over 23 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, behind only the BosWash Region in the Northeastern United States. There is no official definition for the northern boundary of Southern California. However, most definitions in use include all the land south of the Tehachapi Mountains, located about 70 miles (113 km) north of Los Angeles. On the west of Southern California lies the Pacific Ocean; to the south is the international border between the United States and Mexico; to the east are the Mojave and Colorado Deserts and the Colora...

Cafe’s, restaraunts, and bars on the boardwalk in San Diego?

coronado home
I will be visiting San Diego the end of this month and was wanting to know the best places to eat and drink on or along the beaches and boardwalks of San Diego. I will be staying on Coronado although driving is not an issue. I would love to know the places that only the locals know of. Was interested in visiting places native to san diego, nothing I could eat at home. If you are going to Pacific Beach I would check out the World Famous, great breakfast there too. Kono's right next to Crystal Pier has great and cheap breakfast's with a patio that overlooks the ocean. Lahaina's is a popular bar right on the beach but is very crowded usually and the spot in front of it is a big party spot on the sand. Tower 23 is the new, hip trendy place for drinks and food.

hermit crab? what to feed and where to start, i found a small crab at coronado california beach?

coronado home
so i was picking up shells today and found a snail-like redish shell and noticed there was a small crab in it. the shell is pretty cracked and has a small hole. it looks like the hermits with the painted shells that they sell in the pet shops so i brought it home along with a small heap of sand, some water, and two teenytiny clams from the beach. now it is in the bottle which i cut into a canoe like shape and set up so the sand goes like in a ramp.that way the crab can be completely submerged or completely dry. my stupid litl brother washed it with tap water but i rinsed it with the beach water again and put it back in the 'canoe', it looked fine like it was sccooping things from the water -does that mean it was eating? can i really put a cheerio or p.b. in there for now like i have read o...

Tearing down the Coronado Springs Resort at WDW?

coronado home
We just returned home from Disney over the weekend. One day we were riding the bus (we were the only ones on there) and I commented about all of the construction they were doing. Our driver said that they were going to be tearing down the Coronado, too. I've never stayed there before, but always thought it was a beautiful resort. Has anyone else heard this, or have an idea of why they might be tearing it down? "g" just becuase a menu is getting upgrades does not mean it will never shut down. Ooh, so they are substituting a hot dog with a hot dog and cheese... ok, so I guess that means it's set in stone that CSR will never close. In addition to that, the restaurants at CSR are owned by an outside company, which is why they offer differnt foods and prices on items at that res...

Living In/Around San Diego/Coronado?

coronado home
We are being stationed to San Diego (North Island, Coronado actually) next December. I know Coronado is outrageously expensive, but we'd like to live within 5-10 miles of the base, if possible. Want a family friendly neighborhood, as we have a 12 year old son, and would definitely like it to be as safe as possible, since hubby is being deployed in January. Would like to buy, if possible - - a town home or single family residence but I know finances will be an issue (our price range would be up to $350k, which I know doesn't go far in So Cal). I also would like to be close to work - - I don't have a job set up yet but I work as a paralegal. Does anyone have any suggestions for what neighborhoods or parts of San Diego to look in? Many, many thanks in advance for your kind advice. A lo...

Why does the sand and shallow ocean water in San Diego appear to be flecked with gold?

coronado home
Recently spent time in Coronado just outside of San Diego, CA and we were fascinated by the floating "gold dust" in the shallow waters of the ocean and those same flecks of gold that permeated the sand. What is this stuff - does anybody know? I wanted to bottle it up and bring it home, just because it was so mesmerizing and it made me think of the early settlers who came out to CA for the gold rush! More than likely is that your "gold dust" is composed of small pieces of mica - a platelike mineral that reflects light very well.
